Want to Move Out? Do It! Part (2)
Moving out of home doesn’t mean you get to say goodbye to all your emotional stresses and pressures. Those can happen anywhere and any time. But if you move out knowing that things can go wrong—that life happens and it won’t always be perfect—then you’re going to be okay.
PRACTICE RUNS
This is just the beginning—there’s a lot more to learn as we go through the book—but if at this stage you’ve got some doubts, then why not volunteer to house-sit for someone? That’ll give you an idea of how much you like your own company and how well you cope with all the chores of running a house.
You won’t have ‘all’ the financial responsibility but it’s about as close as you can get to the real thing. The other thing to do is going to sound really dumb—but that is to get more involved in running your own home now. Do more around the place: do some cooking, some shopping, some washing and ironing.Maybe you can make it your job to get the garbage out.
Sounds pretty boring but this will be your life if you move out so it wouldn’t hurt to get some on-the-job training. A bit like work experience . . .
